Remote Setup

LabQuest, LabPro, WDSS, and Go! Motion can collect data without being connected to a computer. You can use a computer to set up the experiment, then detach the device. After data are collected remotely, then reattach the device to the computer to retrieve the data. LabQuest and LabPro can collect remote data for two different types of data collection - time based and selected events. WDSS and Go! Motion and can collect time-based data remotely.

Time-Based Data Collection
(LabQuest, LabPro, WDSS, or Go! Motion)

  1. Configure your time-based experiment. Set up sensors, experiment duration, and data-collection rate, just as you normally would to collect data in time-based mode. Note: You can set up the WDSS to collect remote data only after certain conditions are met. This is called triggering. For example, acceleration data will be collected only when the acceleration raises to 2 m/s2. The triggering conditions are listed in the remote setup window.
  2. Instead of clicking the Collect button, choose Remote > Setup from the Experiment menu.
  3. Follow the instructions in the dialog to finish setup. Note: Some sensors require time to warm up before remote data collection can begin. You will get a warning screen alerting you of this.
  4. (optional, but recommended) Save the Logger Pro experiment file, so it can be used to later retrieve the data.
  5. When you are ready to collect data, press:
  6. You can stop data collection early by pressing the same button before data collection is complete. Note: To prevent accidentally stopping WDSS remote data collection, check the box next to Disable Stop Button During Remote Collection. Data collection will cease only when the experiment time runs out.

Selected Events
(LabPro or LabQuest Only)

  1. Make sure the experiment is set for selected events data-collection mode. Set up the sensors as you normally would to collect data in Selected Events mode with LabPro or LabQuest connected to the computer.
  2. Instead of clicking the Collect button, select Remote > Setup from the Experiment menu.
  3. Follow the instructions in the dialog to finish setup. Note: Some sensors require time to warm up before remote data collection can begin. You will get a warning screen alerting you of this. If you are using two sensors that require warming up, Logger Pro will use the longer time interval of the two sensors before starting data collection.
  4. (optional, but recommended) Save the Logger Pro experiment file, so it can be used to later retrieve the data.
  5. Every time you press the START/STOP button (LabPro) or Collect button (LabQuest), one data point will be collected. Repeat as often as you want, up to 99 readings.

Note: The following sensors cannot be set up to collect remote data:
