Create an Experiment File

An experiment file is a record of the total configuration of Logger Pro when the file was created. The sensor setup, calibrations, data collection setup, graph configurations, and data are stored in the file.

Logger Pro 3.3 and newer saves experiment files with the extension ".cmbl." It can also open the follow file types:

An experiment file is the preferred way to set up Logger Pro for use with a particular sensor, since many details of the configuration can be loaded at once. Create an experiment file using these steps:

  1. Set up Logger Pro for the sensors* you will use, including any calibration information. Note: If you don't have the interface and/or sensors handy, choose Add Offline Interface from the Experiment menu.
  2. Set up the data collection mode, period, and rate as needed.
  3. Define any new columns you need.
  4. Set up the graphs as desired. Create the number of graphs, set the scaling, and select what is plotted for your experiment.
  5. Consider adding an explanatory or instructional text window which will be displayed when the experiment file is loaded.
  6. Test your set-up by performing a trial experiment, and make changes as needed.
  7. If you do not want to save your example data with the experiment setup, clear the data by choosing Clear All Data from the Data menu.
  8. Choose Save As from the File menu. Enter a descriptive file name, and save the file.

To use your custom set up later, open the experiment file. It will be easier to find the file later if you place a copy of the file in the default experiment file directory specified in the Logger Pro Preferences dialog.

* Connecting auto-ID sensors will change your currently opened file. This feature can be disabled from the Preferences dialog.
