Column Options (Definitions Tab)

You can set or edit display attributes for a defined column in the Column Definition tab.

View the Definition Tab of the Column Options dialog by double-clicking the name of the column in the Data Table or by choosing Column Options from the Data menu and selecting the column name.

Labels and Units

Name

The long name is used in graph axis labels, column headings and menus whenever there is sufficient room. You cannot use a quotation character (“) in the Name.

Short Name

The Short Name is used in graph axis labels, column headings, and menus whenever there is limited room. If you do not enter a Short Name, the first letter of the Name will be used.

Units

The Unit follows the Name in graph axis labels and column headings. If the units that you enter are not the same as a visible line on the active graph window, you will be warned that your column will not be automatically shown in the graph. You can either re-enter units that match a visible line, or click on the y-axis label in the graph window and select your column to be drawn.

You can choose special symbols (including subscripts and superscripts) to be included in all of the above fields by clicking the button.

Lock Column

Check Lock Column to prevent cell editing in the column.

Data Type

You can select different types of data to be collected.

Numeric (sensor and non sensor-based columns) - The experiment time or data point number.

Date (non sensor-based columns only) - The date in day, month, and year in which each data point are collected.

Date and Time (non sensor-based columns only) - The date and time in which each data point are collected.

Time of Day (non sensor-based columns only) - The time of day in which each data point are collected.

Treat as Text (non sensor-based, Events with Entry columns only) - If treat as text is checked, then the entries are merely labels. Example: enter 1, 2, 3, 8 as the entries for EWE. If numeric, then the entered values are actually graphed, and there is a gap between 3 and 8. If text, then the entries are just labels and are plotted equally spaced. As a result, there is no gap between 3 and 8.

Generate Values

Check Generate Values to create a custom column with specific labels.

The Starting and Ending values, along with the Increment, can be adjusted. The new column will default as a numeric value, with no minimum or maximum value and increment, if the box is not checked.
