Set Distance or Length

In the Set Distance or Length dialog you can set up the characteristic distance you want to use for calculations of position, velocity and acceleration. This distance, often the width of a flag or object, allows Logger Pro to calculate velocities from the raw photogate timing data. You can also manually enter a value for a custom device. Access the dialog by choosing Set Up Sensors from the Experiment menu. Click the Photogate port and select Set Distance or Length from the drop-down menu.

Set Up Your Device

To set up your device, perform the following in the Set Distance or Length dialog according to the mode you are using:

Motion Timing

  1. Select your device from the drop-down menu. If you are using a device that is supported, the setup is now complete. If you are using a custom device, select User Defined and continue with this procedure.
  2. Manually enter the distance of a custom device and choose appropriate units.
  3. Select OK.

Pulse or Gate Timing

  1. Enter the Distance Between Gates and choose appropriate Units.
  2. Select OK.

When using the Pulse or Gate setting, you can select the length of the object that will be passing through the gate.

The distance or length value is stored in a user parameter. You can insert a parameter control for easy adjustment if desired.
