Watts up?

Watts up? is a device that can be used with Logger Pro to monitor real-time electricity usage and cost. It is auto-ID and connects to a USB port on your computer. Experiment files are available, which can be used to perform many experiments. For example, you can plug a freezer into Watts up? and collect time-based data over night or you can use the Events with Entry data-collection mode to compare the electricity usage of different types of light bulbs.

Watts up? Sensor Dialog

Open the Watts up? sensor dialog by choosing Set Up Sensors from the Experiment menu or by clicking the Watts up? icon in the toolbar. In the dialog, you will find the following information:

Sensor Info

The Watts up? sensor dialog contains information about the device that is connected, including the amount of available memory and the hardware and firmware version numbers.

Channels

Watts up? can collect data for the the following channels:

Real Power

The power currently being consumed by the device that is plugged into Watts up?, measured in watts.

Potential

The root mean squared (RMS) potential present on the power line.

Current

The RMS current being drawn by the device that is plugged into Watts up?, measured in amperes.

Apparent Power

The products of the RMS potential and the RMS current.
