Spectrometer Sensor Setup

Click the Spectrometer icon, , on the left-hand side of the screen, just below the toolbar, to change data-collection settings. You can change the following values to optimize data-collection for your experiment.

Sample Time

The Sample Time is like the shutter speed of a camera. Sample time is set by Logger Pro during calibration. Do not change the value when measuring Absorbance or %Transmittance. The sample time can be adjusted to increase or decrease signal intensity when measuring Fluorescence or Intensity.

Wavelength Smoothing

Sets the number of adjacent readings on either side of a given wavelength value that are used to calculate a running average across wavelengths.

Samples to Average

Also known as temporal averaging. Enter the number of consecutive samples taken to calculate an average. Increasing this value can improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Wavelength Range

The default Wavelength Range is determined by the type of Spectrometer. The range can be tightened before calibration if desired. Using a narrower range will optimize the calibration for that range.

Intensity Correction

An adjustment applied to Spectrometer intensity readings to partially compensate for variations in detector sensitivity as a function of wavelength. Applies only to Intensity mode. Intensity Correction is only available for supported spectrometer models. Select Intensity Correction when comparing sources with continuum spectra (e.g., incandescent sources).
