Importing Data from Other Applications
Choose Import > Text File... from
the File menu to import data from text files
created by other applications. Several different formats are supported
and are automatically detected. More information, including specific
steps for Microsoft® Excel® and word processing programs, is
available
below. Note: It can be easier to copy and paste
data from another application into Logger Pro using
the clipboard. See details below.
Supported Formats
- Tab-delimited text format used by many applications (i.e.,
.txt, .TEXT, or .dat).
- Generic tab or comma-separated data.
Import a text file from Microsoft® Excel®
- Start Excel and load or create your spreadsheet. Choose
Save As from the File menu and choose Text (tab delimited) (*.txt). Note:
You can also export and import the file if saved as a (Comma Delimited) CSV (*.csv) file.
- In Logger Pro, import the data by
choosing Import From >
Text File from the File menu and navigate
to the file.
Import From a Word Processor
- Type in rows of data separating each data point by a tab.
Save this as text (.txt) file.
- In Logger Pro, import the data by
choosing Import From > Text File from the File
menu and navigate to the file.
Import From other Applications Using the Clipboard
- Display the data in the other application in tabular form.
Select the data you want to copy. You can only copy the columns and
rows that you select.
- Select Copy from the Edit
menu to copy the data to the clipboard.
- Launch Logger Pro.
- Select the columns, rows, or cells you want to paste into
and choose Paste from the Edit
menu.
Notes
- If a word processing program is used to prepare data in any
of these formats the file must be saved as text.
- Each text file created in Logger Pro
has a specific structure that includes a time stamp, data column names,
short names, units, and data. If you make changes to the exported file,
be sure to preserve the structure.
