Copying text into Terminal
You can copy and paste text into Terminal. You can copy text from within Terminal, or from a text document belonging to another application. For example, if you have a document open in a word-processor that includes a command statement that you want to use, you can just copy the command, and paste it into Terminal, just as you would with any text program. You can also drag a text clipping from the Finder into Terminal.
Along with the Paste command, Terminal includes alternate ways to copy over text:
- To paste the selected text, choose Edit > Paste Selected.
- To paste text that includes escaped text, choose Edit > Paste Escaped Text. (Escaped text has reserved characters that are coded in special sequences.)
If you include the Return character at the end of the line in the pasted text, the command will immediately execute.
