Radiation Monitor

Radiation Monitors have unique setup procedures. They are not auto-ID capable and must be set up manually. The easiest place to get started when using a Radiation Monitor is to use one of the experiment files that comes with Logger Pro. These files were set up to cover the most common experiments using a Radiation Monitor.

To open an experiment file, choose Open from the File menu; choose Probes & Sensors, then choose Radiation Monitor. Browse through the files to find one that best covers the experiment you are conducting. If you do not find a file that will work for you, see below for tips on manually setting up a Radiation Monitor.

Manually Set Up a Radiation Monitor

  1. Connect the interface to a computer running Logger Pro.
  2. Connect the Radiation Monitor to the digital port of your interface (LabQuest, LabQuest Mini, or LabPro).
  3. Choose Set Up Sensors from the Experiment menu.
  4. Click your Radiation Monitor in the list and move it to the correct digital port.
  5. Once the Radiation Monitor is set up, the sensor status will be shown. The reading will be in Counts.

Changing the Data-Collection Interval

The default collection interval for the Radiation Monitor is one sample every five seconds. If you are collecting data in the Events with Entry or Selected Events data-collection mode, you can change the count interval in the Count Interval dialog.

  1. In the Sensor Setup dialog (access the dialog by choosing Set Up Sensors from the Experiment menu), click the Radiation Monitor connected to the interface and select Count Interval to view the Count Interval dialog.
  2. Change the Count Interval and Units.
  3. Select OK.
