Step 4: Collect Data and Open Experiment Files

Collecting Data

Once Logger Pro is set up to collect data with your interface and sensors, you are ready to collect data.

There are several ways to start data collection. The easiest is to click Collect The Collect button graphic. You can also choose Start Collection from the Experiment menu.

Hint: If you accidentally start data collection before saving your data, either click Stop The Stop button graphic or wait for data collection to end. Then choose Undo Collect from the Edit menu. The table and graph will revert to the previous data.

Opening Experiment Files

If you would like to perform a specific experiment from a book, such as Chemistry with Vernier, open an experiment file and choose Open from the File menu. In the Experiments folder, there is a folder for each book, including Chemistry with Vernier. There is also a folder for each sensor in the Probes & Sensors folder. After you have opened an experiment file, your are ready to take data by clicking Collect The Collect button graphic.

If you need a customized setup, it is best to start with one of the included experiment files. Open an experiment file that is similar to the setup that you want to use, then make changes to the experiment file. There are lots of changes you may want to make, including changing the data-collection duration, adding other sensors, or inserting an additional graph. When everything is set up in the way that you want, save the file so it can be used later.
